Group Health Insurance

Group Health Insurance is an important part of a compensation package and it can attract the cream of the workforce to a company. At the same time the cost of providing health insurance to the employees cannot be ignored. However, the possibility of finding an affordable group health insurance plan is higher than you think. There are a variety of plans that are available from either the comprehensive group health coverage or consumer-directed savings plans.

Consumer directed group health insurance plans are fast becoming popular among the small, as well as, large corporations as the policyholders take control of their health care dollars, thereby, cutting cost for themselves and the company. Some of the consumer-directed group health insurance plans are

  • Health Savings Account (HSA) Plans – Here the company and employee contribute tax-free income which can be used for any health related expenditure. They also have the additional option of rolling over the funds to the next year, in case they haven’t been used. And it accrues interest too!
  • Cafeteria Plans – the employees decide where their benefit dollars go by choosing from a “menu” of coverage options like medical, dental, accident, term life insurance etc.

Comprehensive Group Health Insurance Plans also offers a whole plethora of options for companies to choose from, some of which are

  • Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) –One of the more affordable group health insurance options available, the employee has to go to a doctor within the network and choose a primary care physician
  • Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) – Unlike the HMO, the employees have the option of receiving care from doctors and physicians who may or may not be a part of the in-network doctors.
